NEIGHBOURGOOD

Credit unions do more than just banking. We’re teaching youth about financial literacy. We’re choosing to volunteer in our communities. And we support causes unique to the neighbourhoods around our branches.

Being an active part of the community it’s important that we ask ourselves the question: what does it mean to be a good neighbour? Well, we think it’s about celebrating the things that make our communities great and to give back to our neighbours.

At Legacy Financial we’re Making Money Make a Difference.

OUR PILLARS

GRASSROOTS GRANTS

Investing in our community is an investment in ourselves. Why? Because we’re your neighbours, our kids go to the same school, we sit alongside you on the bleachers. We share a community – let’s build on the things that make it great.

Our contributions come in all shapes and sizes and for kinds of needs. We’re committed to celebrating our communities so if you think you have an eligible cause, then we’d love to hear from you.

Check out our programs below:

1. ACT LOCAL GRANTS   2. STEPPING STONES GRANTS

Our branch-giving program empowers employees to make decisions to best support neighbourhoods near our branches.

Our employees take pride in building partnerships with local charities, not-for-profits, and public organizations to meet each community’s unique needs. Applications are presented to our nearest branch for consideration.

Stepping Stones help people bring small acts of community to life.

These small grants (ranging from $100 – $600) encourage active citizenship by providing residents with funds to implement creative projects that benefit their local community.

This program is offered in partnership with the Calgary Foundation.

  2. COMMUNITY GRANTS

This matched savings program helps youth learn how to save,
plan for their future career, and get enrolled in post-secondary education or trade programs.

Our branch teams each select one scholarship recipient annually, then provide mentorship throughout the
school year and matched savings up to $1,000.

Priority is placed on students who are motivated but may face financial barriers to achieving their career or education goals. Applications accepted April 2019.

Each One, Teach One is an innovative program that trains employees to deliver basic financial skills workshops in community settings.

Delivered in plain language – and in classrooms, church basements, neighbourhood houses and community centres – the approach of Each One, Teach One is to meet individuals where they are, when they seek training

Each year, we provide up to $10,000 in donations to community organizations affecting measurable change for Southern Albertans to gain skills, knowledge and confidence in their financial capability. Applications reviewed annually in August.
